Dear friends in Christ,
The second full day of our work in the Chalmeca church and community went very well. Concrete is being poured and finished, the sewing workshop made slow but steady progress, and the Bible School attracted more than sixty young students (up from 48 the first day).
God has blessed us with the moderate weather we asked you to pray for. We have had heavy rain lasting for hours--but, thanks be to God--it has been almost all at night! The daytime temperatures and conditions have been hot but tolerable. Please continue to pray for our safety and for good weather. We return to San Pedro Sula tomorrow and fly home on Friday.

The end of the First Day of Work
Dear friends in Christ,
The day has been wonderful, long, hot, and filled with blessings.
Our Sunday was spent in two ways. Those of our team who had been in Honduras before on previous teams visited a remote congregation where a new church, built with funds from Louisiana, has been opened. First timers went with me and my Honduras "bodyguard" David to the famous archaelogical site in Copan Ruinas.
In the afternoon, our entire group reunited for an early dinner and a trip to the town where our mission work is focused during this visit. In Chalmeca I celebrated the liturgy in Spanish, and my long-time friend and colleague from Louisiana days Fr Roman Roldan preached a great sermon from Galatians. It felt like home since at Christ Church we've heard a lot of St Paul to the Galatians in the pulpit lately!
Heavy rain and darkness required us to make a quick departure from the parish to get us home safely. In the hotel, the internet service was spotty at best during the storm. Today thing are much better.
The work began on the concrete floor in the church under construction, the sewing workshop is underway, and the Bible School in the afternoon was a delight. I'll post pictures tomorrow of all these ministries that you are part of through your prayers and gifts that have made the trip possible. More news tomorrow.

Saturday night...Safe arrival.
Very short post: give thanks for travel blessings all day. No serious issues and easy arrival for all through customs and immigration. Then the first rate rental vehicles took us to La Entrada and our hotel.
Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard is sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ and sleep we may rest in peace. Amen.

Mission Trip Preliminaries
The Christ Church Mission Team leaves for Honduras on Saturday, June 29 and returns to the U.S. on Friday, July 5.
This blog will provide information day by day throughout the week with pictures and short reports of our activity. We will also keep you up to date on our next day schedule and with prayer requests.
The first prayer request is for a day of safe travel from San Antonio to Honduras. The journey will begin for us at 5am with the first flight. Our arrival in Honduras will be in San Pedro Sula at about noon. In early afternoon we will drive in a caravan of four vehicles for about two hours to La Entrada, our home base for the week.
Saturday evening will bring our team and the local church priest (together with his family) together for dinner and planning.
Sunday morning part of our team will visit the famous ruins at the archaeological park in Copan Ruinas; others will visit a remote village church in the morning for worship. Sunday afternoon, the team will be reunited in Chalmeca for a celebration of the Eucharist with the people whom we will serve in our mission next week.
Our Saturday and Sunday Prayer request: safe travel.
